![]() ![]() ![]() Sometimes, as much as we want more screen time, less is more.Following the Season 5 finale, spoke with series showrunner Naren Shankar about that tense finale as well as the looming threat for Season 6, who gave us a little bit to consider as we move into that final season. ![]() Season 3 covered all of Abbadon’s Gate in 7 (actually 6 if we’re being honest) episodes, and I think it’s the best adaptation in the show. In terms of comparing this to a previous series of television, I’d be much more inclined to bring up the previous final season of The Expanse. Besides, many parts of BA, such as Fred’s death and Drummer/Pa turning against Marco have already been covered in season 5. #The expanse season 6 free#I have absolutely no problem with the show cutting most of Pa’s arc and the random Free Navy supporting Joe Schmoes on Medina Station in favour of the stuff everyone actually likes. Secondly, I think it’s generally agreed that there’s a fair bit of Babylon’s Ashes has some of the worst chapters in the series. I don’t think there’s any real comparison to be made here. Babylon’s Ashes is a book that has been out for 5 years, the authors are very active in the show’s production, and they have been from the beginning. episode and a 68 min one for the same series.Īssuming this is true, and that’s a fairly big assumption, I don’t think it’s necessary a terrible thing, even if we get less content as a result.įirst off, comparisons to GoT are just absurd. That's why Amazon is OK with getting a 35 min. The way those contracts work, the studio (Alcon) doesn't have to deliver a number of episodes, but rather they have to deliver a range of total runtime. It sounds far more likely to me that if the rumour is true, then they filmed a lot more than usual for these episodes and therefore it's a storytelling decision to use the screen time and budget on fewer episodes. It could hint that they Covid protocols were so stringent that it slowed down filming massively and they had to spend the studio budget of ten episodes to film six, but as far as I know the Covid protocols in Canada have not slowed things down anywhere near that extent on other productions and it's hard to see what it would have on The Expanse, where the actors had all been pre-quarantined. So the whole reasoning that with the filming schedule they couldn't do 10 episodes is inaccurate.īut it doesn't mean the rumour of six episodes is false. They do have extra days if they need to stretch to 11 or 13, but those are "double up" days, where they film in parallel to the previous or next filming block with a second unit, sharing the actors and sets, in order to stretch out the budget without adding any more studio days. It was the same in the days of 13 episodes, the one filmed separately had 9 days, the others had 18 days per block of 2 episodes). The Expanse always have had filming blocks of 18 days (for two episodes) or 9 days if a single episode was filmed (like Thomas Jane in s5, who did a single episode and got 9 days. They say (I paraphrase) that if we look at the schedule, it would leave "only" 9,8 days of filming per episode, and that's not enough, and it means they could film at most 6-7. ![]() The article detailing this rumour has a crucial part wrong. lets you tell a much better story than doing the same in chunks of 42-50 min. This is entirely possible depending on the structure of the story he has in mind. Either that, or he looked at the story left to tell and he decided that it would be best for pacing to tell it with six longer episodes instead of ten shorter ones. If they had six episodes, it's most likely because Naren looked at the story left to tell and decided it only needed six episodes. I don't think that would be part of a negotiation strategy. ![]()
